3/09/2010 Player: Edwar Ramirez (R) - Texas Rangers Transaction: Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Bombers last week. The Rangers hope they can recapture the guy who averaged 10.2 K/9 in 2008. Ramirez quickly fell in the pecking order in New York, thanks to a 5.73 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 22 innings last season. Basically, his changeup -- once a legitimate weapon -- has stopped fooling people. Couple that with poor control and a high flyball rate, and it could be a disastrous experiment at the Ballpark in Arlington. Still, it's a worthy one. Status: Active
3/07/2010 Player: Travis D'Arnaud (C) - Toronto Blue Jays Transaction: D'Arnaud is the biggest prospect of the bunch, as Baseball Prospectus has him as the third-best prospect in the organization. The 20-year-old put up a mediocre-looking .255/.319/.419 line in single-A last year, but has good power, makes great contact and his numbers were suppressed by bad parks. We'll see what he can do in the Blue Jays organization this year. Status: Minors
3/06/2010 Player: Shawn Hill (S) - Toronto Blue Jays Transaction: Hill was signed to a minor league contract in January. Like Jesse Litsch, Scott Richmond and Dirk Hayhurst, Hill is also on the shelf due to injury. The oft-injured right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery last June. Don't hold your breath here, but he could be an in-season alternative. Status: Minors
3/04/2010 Player: Casey Fien (R) - Toronto Blue Jays Transaction: Fien continues to bounce around. The Red Sox claimed him off waivers from the Tigers earlier this week. The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 7.94 ERA in nine appearances with the Tigers last season, but has a 3.04 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 153 minor league relief appearances. He's an interesting project. Status: Minors
3/03/2010 Player: Gaby Hernandez (S) - Kansas City Royals Transaction: Hernandez, 24, was designated for assignment this week in order to make room for the recently-claimed Casey Fein. The Royals are Hernandez's third team in the past four weeks, as the Red Sox claimed Hernandez off waivers from the Mariners in February. He was 10-9 with a 5.23 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 26 starts with Triple-A Tacoma (Seattle) last season. Though he has regressed over the past two seasons, there's still some hope that he could make it as a fifth starter in the majors. Status: Active
